GitHub Bans Policy

Hi, all.

I’ve been following the project since the beginning of SerpentOS, and want to potentially maintain some packages. I’ve held off so far, because I thought the distro was undergoing heavy testing and rapid incremental development, so was not encouraging new package submissions.

It looks like the project may be in a different place, now. When I looked at GitHub, it looked like I was banned from the project.

Is there a policy or process for reviewing those (me) on the ban list?

Many thanks,

Chris

Hi @chris_debian,

Apologies for the delay in responding to you.

When you were banned, we had left a message to explain why: Proposal: AerynOS Roadmap Proposal (Alpha → Beta) · Issue #44 · aerynOS/dotcom · GitHub

I will copy it here, incase the ban prohibited you seeing the post:

If you had gotten in touch with the team on our chat platform (https://aerynos.zulipchat.com) as I requested the last time you went ahead and worked on something without asking and coordinating first, you would have known that:

  • We already have an internal roadmap that the team is using to deliver the stuff you see in our blog posts
  • We are not planning to make said roadmap public for a variety of reasons
  • Ikey has still not gotten in touch (and at this stage, we judge it unlikely that he will ever do so)
  • We are therefore going to remove the dotcom Roadmap entry he added ASAP

Hence, I am going to close this as not planned/duplicate.

Note that, if you would like to spend your time on things that actively helps the project, rather than wasting your time on things that are not helpful to the project, its contributors or its users, I can only reiterate that it is in your own best interest to get in touch with the team via our https://aerynos.zulipchat.com chat platform.

EDIT: To avoid any further misunderstandings, I am temporarily banning you from engaging with AerynOS on Github until you have made contact via our chat platform.

Essentially, we need you to join our Zulip server and engage with us. I do appreciate your enthusiasm however there were multiple instances where you went off, did a whole load of work that ended up being lost time for you, and more effort for us in either explaining why that given avenue wasn’t right for the project or in the case of the speed run ok the recipes repo, it ended up giving us more work undoing what you had done.

If you join our Zulip server and proactively engage with us (rather than reactively), we would be open to removing the ban on a trial basis.

Hi,

Thanks for explaining — understood, and appreciated.

I won’t be joining Zulip at the moment, so I’ll leave things as they are for now rather than push for the ban to be lifted. If I do come back to aerynOS in future, it’ll be as a user rather than a contributor, so I won’t report any bugs, or anything that could be misinterpreted.

Aeryn has become a great project, and I wish it a bright future.

Chris
