Hi all, I installed aerynOS and so far so good.
I also run Solus, so I was pleasantly surprised to find the scx schedulers baked in. I’ve been having a lot of fun playing around with them. moss is quick too. Installing and updating feels as fast as CachyOS and NixOS.
Here’s what I did to get set up, in case it helps anyone else just starting out.
- Update first:
sudo moss sync -u - NVIDIA drivers: Check which kernel you’re running:
uname -r
Mine ended in .stable, so I installed the matching stable modules:
sudo moss install nvidia-open-gpu-kernel-modules-stable nvidia-graphics-driver nvidia-graphics-driver-32bit
sudo reboot
If yours ends in .lts or .gaming, use the -lts or -gaming modules instead. Afterwards, nvidia-smi should show your card. Only cards supported by the NVIDIA open kernel modules work (Turing and newer). Mine is a GTX 1650.
- scx schedulers
These are already running out of the box. Check which one you’re on:
scxctl get
Mine came up as lavd in Auto mode. To try another one:
scxctl switch --sched flash --mode gaming
To go back to the default:
scxctl restore
- Printing
sudo moss install cups cups-client cups-filters cups-browsed print-manager foomatic-db foomatic-db-engine foomatic-db-nonfree
sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo systemctl enable --now cups cups-browsed
systemctl status cups --no-pager
5.Flatpak
It was already installed. I just added Flathub:
flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub ``https://dl.flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo
- Your own shell tweaks
Put them in ~/.bashrc.d/ as .sh files and they load automatically. You don’t need a .bashrc.
So far it’s a really interesting project. Looking forward to seeing where it goes.
