Unstable Stream Update: 26th-28th February 2026

Changes

This set of unstable updates was dominated by @ReillyBrogan landing KDE Plasma 6.6, in addition to a fair few other stack updates. He got 6.6.0 landed for testing just after it was released by upstream, but we decided to wait for 6.6.1 before sync’ing it to the unstable stream.

Moss and boulder saw a number of refactors and improvements (some of which are still in review), thanks to an old friend of the project, Fabio, rejoining our ranks after a hiatus and digging in straight away. This has resulted in some nice updates across the project, and we’re happy to see Fabio back in the thick of things.

Finally, our growing team of Trusted Contributors banded together and got a fair few new packages ready to be added to our repository. The astute reader will no doubt notice that many of these new packages relate to building Wayland compositor-based Desktop Experiences.

As we are planning to do some fairly large stack rebuilds during March, we are putting a soft-freeze in effect re. adding new packages. The focus for March should instead be primarily on fixing and updating existing recipes.

As always, more people contributed than have been highlighted above. We are grateful for every single contribution!

  • A fixup-recipe-commit function was added to bash and zsh helpers for packagers (needs to be added for fish helpers as well – contributions welcome!).
  • moss initrd service and install scripts should now work properly with newer (110 and probably 107) Dracut versions.
