Unstable Stream Update: 12th May 2026

Changes

Hot on the heels of our 2026.05.2 ISO release, this set of unstable updates contains a few larger stack updates:

  1. We updated our GCC stack to 16.1. Reilly remarked that, so far, this has been a pretty smooth update on the libstdc++ side.
  2. We landed KDE Frameworks 6.26.0 and KDE Gear 26.04.1 with attendant rebuilds
  3. We landed COSMIC DE 1.0.12
  4. Philip was on top of the recent kernel page-cache related LPE issues (Copy Fail and Dirty Frag), and this update contains the latest patches for those.
  5. Finally, we rebuilt our CPython 3.14.4 interpreter with the performance-enhancing tail call interpreter build option.

If you’re into ricing your Window Manager setup, take a look at the new pkgset-oxide updates made by community member Christian Bendixen, along with his ferrite tool for managing and installing configurations.
